From Treganhoe Farm by the Cornwall AONB, there is a treat is almost every direction: the beach just 10 minutes' drive east, famous Land’s End 20 minutes west, and "The Drift" reservoir, a lovely bird reserve and fly fishery, almost directly next door. The farm has been in the James family for three generations, and is now run as a dairy farm milking 170 pedigree Holstein Friesian Cows with also sheep and pigs. There will be a lot of introductions on the farm with all the animals to meet, which often happens on the farm tour as well as the quick breaking of the ice then with the kids of other tents. The countryside beyond the farm is dramatic and the options varied. Fly fishing for trout and Arctic Char at Drift Reservoir is a 10-minute walk to the south of the reservoir. For outstanding bird-watching, a 15-minute walk north-west from Treganhoe is a hide maintained by Cornwall’s preservation society. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars-one size fits all!
Everything here is a short distance away. Up the coast 10 minutes is Penzance’s Eastern Green Beach, a very safe and secure sandy beach, sheltered and gently sloping. Lamorna Cove, 15 minutes south, is another good option for swimming. And the north coast beaches, 20 minutes away, are usually calm if the south’s beaches are less so.
One of the prettiest fishing villages in Cornwall, Mousehole, is just a 15-minute drive, while to the south, 20 minutes, is the amazing open-air Minack Theatre.
