Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner
Salhouse Broad is a unique broad located on the River Bure between Wroxham and Horning, in the heart of East Anglia. It is 40 acres in size and is part of the Broads executive area, a member of the national park family. Unlike most of the other Broads, which were created by people digging for peat in the Middle Ages, Salhouse Broad was created by sand and gravel extraction. As sea levels rose the diggings gradually flooded, forming Salhouse Broad along with all the other Broads in the area.Today, Salhouse Broad holds a mosaic of valuable Broadland habitats and species, including mature dry woodland, wet carr woodland, alder and gorse/ broom scrub and fen as well as open water. It is a special landscape rich in character and distinctiveness, wildlife, history and heritage. Come and explore the ancient woodland, enjoy a picnic on the grassy hill and let the children run wild in the rustic area. It is an ideal place to walk the dog, or just relax and take in the beautiful scenery. The site is managed by the landowner, Henry Cator, as a sustainable business. Management is focused on protecting the broadsХ past, whilst also meeting the needs of the present and future generations, as well as catering for both wildlife and for the site as a recreational resource. All the income for the Broad goes back into the upkeep, repairs, maintenance, conservation and improvements to access. The team is small but hardworking. The broad employs two full time Rangers (Belinda and Holly), as well as seasonal rangers in the busy season and various helpful and engaged volunteers throughout the year
