Strathmore Caravan Park

Northumberland, Berwick-upon-Tweed

More Photos

We are located in Scotland just minutes away from the Scotland / England border and therefore perfectly situated for exploring both Northumberland & the Scottish Borders. Just 6 miles from the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed which offers a range of local shops as well as several supermarkets. The Elizabethan fortifications which encircle the historic old town are the best preserved in Europe. The town has had an eventful history, changing hands 13 times as England and Scotland waged war over its possession for three centuries.Paxton House is also just down the road which offers super walks around the grounds, a lively events programme as well as housing an important collection of late 18th and early 19th century paintings loaned by the National Galleries of Scotland. DonХt miss the boat trips from Berwick to Paxton during the summer months. Also close by is the superb Union Bridge, the first of its type in the UK and the oldest of its type still in use, which links England and Scotland. Once over the bridge, visit The Chainbridge Honey Farm for a wander around the vintage museum and sample some fabulous honey. We are 5 miles from the pretty village of Norham, a finalist for EnglandХs Favourite Village Award and famous for its imposing Norman castle ruins depicted in TurnerХs iconic paintings. It has a local shop, bakery, two pubs, a gunsmith and the celebrated ForemanХs Butcher selling a fantastic selection of meats, pies, local cheeses, wines and even fishing flies. The fish and chip van on a Thursday night is also not to be missed! The local area sports rare birds and World Heritage site status, an outstanding National Park and numerous familiar sites featured as location shoots for Hollywood movies. Unspoilt beaches await in nearby Berwick upon Tweed. The nearby Scottish towns and villages have outstanding facilities for dining, shopping and great days out, as well as ancient abbeys in both Kelso and Jedburgh. Famous for textiles the Scottish Borders presents excellent discounted shopping for high quality knitwear from market leading cashmere and woollen companies. There are more castles and stately homes in the area than almost anywhere else in the UK and most are open to the public for visits. These Estates often stage their own exhibitions and events throughout the year adding more to the local calendar. Alnwick boasts both the castle used in Harry Potter, as well as the ever popular Alnwick Gardens.
