Family-friendly, free-range campsite on the Somerset Levels

Cheddar Petruth Paddocks is all about kicking back and relaxing in a tranquil spot with stunning views. Offering free-range camping for the whole family – pets included - Petruth Paddocks is a friendly campsite that welcomes all, whether you are travelling with the kids or going solo.
Boasting beautiful views of the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels, the free-range site offers spacious pitches, clean facilities and a variety of things to see and do in and around the area. Follow the Strawberry Line by foot or bike from the Cheddar Petruth gate to get to Cheddar Gorge, where there are marked walking trails to enjoy. Take the old railway line path to Yatton, where trains hauled strawberries from the slopes of Cheddar to the early morning markets in east London over half a century ago.

Cheddar Petruth Paddocks provides 200 grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, tourers and motorhomes with chemical disposal points and water supply. There are also tipis and a cosy shepherd's hut which sleep up to eight people, complete with luxury beds and a massive firepit, for those who can’t face putting up a tent.
Facilities are basic but clean and feature hot showers, toilets, and washbasins which are cleaned twice a day. There's a washing-up bay and special bags are provided for you to separate your waste/recycling. Kids can run wild in the open space and jump on the trailer at the end of the day when Jules, the owner, delivers logs for fires. All pets are welcome as long as they are looked after and open fires are allowed with wood delivery available for a small charge.

Location

GPS: 51.2685°N, 2.7731°W

We're located at the foot of the Mendip Hills on the southern edge of Cheddar, Somerset, just off the A371 Wells Road. Got a SATNAV?: Enter the postcode BS27 3XW, but follow these instructions as soon as you leave the A371 otherwise you'll end up in a housing estate! Entering Cheddar from the West: Travel along the A371 through the centre of Cheddar village. You will pass Tesco on your right and the Bath Arms on your left. Continue on this road passing St Andrew's Church followed by Cheddar Football Club on your right. After a further 250 yards, take a right hand off the A371 into Labourham Way. Then follow the first of our signs into the campsite, first by taking an immediate left and slow to walking pace. Do not follow the road around to the left as this leads to a dead-end and a very long reverse! Rather, keeping well over to the right, drive straight ahead. Just before the road becomes a track, take a sharp left into a double gated entrance. Follow the track in to the campsite. Please let us know youХve arrived by stopping by at the cream marquee on your right as you enter the main field before you pitch. Entering Cheddar from the East: Travel along the A371 through Draycott. You will pass the Cheddar Garden Centre and the Kart track followed by a nasty S bend. On exiting the bend, take an immediate left into Labourham Way. Then follow the first of our signs into the campsite, first by taking an immediate left and slow to walking pace. Do not follow the road around to the left as this leads to a dead-end and a very long reverse! Rather, keeping well over to the right, drive straight ahead.
