Holme Valley Camping & Caravan Park
West Yorkshire, Holmfirth
We are a family run park of 3 generations (admittedly the toddlers, twins Toby and Freya may not contribute a lot, but 4 year old Max could sometimes serve you in the shop!) Owners Philip and Hazel turned what was once a derelict mill site into a caravan park.Since opening in 1986 they have seen a wide range of tourism from fans of the BBC series Last of the Summer Wine (which was filmed several times on the park) to campers who just want to enjoy the outdoors and the great walking which the Holme Valley has to offer. After 12 years of teaching, daughter Naomi and husband Ben with their 3 children decided to move back to Holmfirth and join the family business... and good timing too! Expansion is underway (like us on Facebook for regular updates) and the new luxurious toilet and shower block with family bathrooms opened April 2014.As part of the DЋpart de Yorkshire, we saw the Tour de France race past the park entrance on in July 2014 - certainly the busiest weekend the park has ever seen and it was a fantastic atmosphere! Why not rise to the challenge and race the official route yourself?!We aim to keep the running of the park as green as possible. Camping should be an ecologically sound way of holidaying, and guests, having chosen to holiday in the outdoors, should be able to enjoy the wildlife we are lucky to have on and about the park, from the squirrels in the woods to the ducks on the small lake and herons, dippers and kingfishers on the river. We are grateful for the support we have had from our guests which helped us secure our seventeenth consecutive David Bellamy Gold Award in October 2014. Further to this we can now label our new toilet and shower block 'award winning', as later that month we were awarded the David Bellamy Special Distinction Award! A key theme in this year's awards has been the development of new 'green facilities' and particularly innovative projects that embody the latest thinking in renewable energy. We are thrilled and can now 'flush with pride'!
