What should you know about this short film festival?

The celebrated International Short Film Festival, organised by the association Sauve qui peut le court métrage, is back this year, with its 44th edition!

From 28 January to 5 February 2022 in Clermont-Ferrand, 9 days dedicated to the art of short film. The festival will mainly take place in the halls, corridors and rooms of La Maison de la Culture and La Comédie, but other venues will also be used for the festival and the short film market – click on the festival map below for more information.

The following categories are represented: International, National and Lab competitions.

What’s the theme this year ?

Let’s dance !  The festival explains that ‘Since the beginning, the seventh art has shone a light on dance – all of the pioneers of cinema did this (the Lumière brothers, Méliès, Alice Guy, Pathé). So what could be more normal as a theme? Cinema and dance share the fact that they both question and continually alter and renew our relationship with space and time through movement’.

It’s true: dance in general and specific types of dance are often used by cinema to represent fighting, protesting, demanding… For more on the theme, watch the trailer for 2022 :

Spain in the spotlight in 2022

This year the country of honour is Spain, featuring in 9 programmes and about 60 short films. Recent, contemporary films, as well as older works, will be included in the selection. Relevant activities will accompany the films, such as gastronomy, concerts and podcasts.

What to see at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival?

1 – Films:
In total, the festival programme includes 4 programmes with 35 films. You will have the opportunity to rediscover, among others, Le P’tit bal by Découflé, Tanghi Argentini by Guido Thys (a restored copy), or the recent Zombies by Baloji.

2 – A photography exhibition:
You will enjoy an exhibition of previously unseen photographs in collaboration with the Centre National de la Danse. It can be found in the Chapelle des Cordeliers.

3 – A video installation:
Discover the second exhibition entitled You’ve got the power! with Dan.Cin.Lab (festival of cinema, dance and society).

4 – Visual arts :

The group exhibition of artists from the city entitled Danseurs & Toiles will be held in the René-Cassin hall of the Hôtel du département.

Is this festival suitable for children?

Festival du court métrage Clermont-Ferrand

Yes, absolutely, some sessions are even adapted to children, with categories of sessions by age and programmes for kids from 3 years old, 7 years old, 11 years old and 13 years old. Thus, 8 programmes can be discovered with the family or as a school group. This is an opportunity for young and old to share and discover the best of short films, and to be amazed.

You can also extend the experience of the short film festival by visiting L’Atelier – école éphémère du cinéma, or the workshops for children up to 6 years old.

By bus from major cities to Clermont-Ferrand station, with companies such as Flixbus Eurolines or Ouigo Bus.

By air directly to the Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne airport, via regular flights from Lyon, Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle and Paris-Orly, Lille, Nice, Strasbourg, Amsterdam and London-Luton.

By train to Clermont-Ferrand station.

Is the Short Film Festival suitable for kids ?

It certainly is, with some sessions even especially for children. There are programmes for kids from 3 years old, 7 years old, 11 years old and 13 years old and special workshops too.
