Despite its name, Western Cape is South Africa’s most southerly province, where world-famous mountain ranges and beach resorts meet the bustling city metropolis of Cape Town. Because of its bountiful and bi-diverse land, the region is also an agricultural haven, producing wool, grain, fruits and almost all of the country’s wine! (Be sure to ask your campsite about a vineyard tour experiencing the creation of wine first-hand, from grape to glass).

With food, wine and nature’s serenity, you’ll find many family and pet-friendly camp sites in Western Cape, away from the fast-pace of Cape Town, but close enough to get a piece of the action! From boutique glamping at the foothills of the Klein River Mountain Range, to rural, hot-tub retreats where the Sonderend and Breed Rivers meet, you can explore the land by foot or on water, keeping base at a truly-unique accommodation.

For something different, try an authentic farm camp site or luxury treehouse along the Garden route, and be rewarded with views of lush forestry and fynbos surrounding the Outenqua Mountains or Plettensberg Bar, or the warm turquoise waters of Knysna.

Other unique camping destinations in Western Cape can be found throughout the vast Karoo landscape, and you might be lucky enough to spot roaming zebra, impala or blue wildebeest from your tent, lodge or hut. Here you can choose between the majestic backdrop of the Swatberg Mountains or Pat Busch Mountain Reserve, which is home to lots of wildlife, rare flowers and plants… Or visit both?!

Your campsite can guide you or arrange transport for a day trip to the ‘Motherland’, South Africa’s famous city, Cape Town! Here, you won’t want to miss a trip to Table Mountain (one of the new 7 wonders of the world), which can be enjoyed by foot or via the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. Whilst there, take a stroll down popular Long Street and Kloof Street for guaranteed shopping and culinary bliss.
