The Alsace wine route alone is a good reason to visit Alsace - or indeed the greater region of Grand Est of which Alsace is now part. Drive the route or cycle it, visiting vineyards, cellars, wineries and picturesque villages. Taste some fabulous Rieslings, Pinots and other wines along the way, alongside some of the fantastic Alsace cuisine.

The historic centre of Strasbourg is a living museum of architecture from the Middle Ages, with its Gothic cathedral and half-timbered houses. Colmar is another must-see, a “little Venice”, to be visited by boat, to admire the superb buildings along the river. And there is no shortage of other lovely towns and villages here. In fact Alsace is characterised by its pretty, fairytale villages, like Eguisheim and Riquewihr.

In the Vosges Mountains, you’ll find wonderful scenery,  rich flora and fauna, castles and other historic sites to discover on gentle rambles or adventurous hikes. Waymarked walking and mountain biking trails are aplenty, as well as climbing and paragliding sites. Or maybe you'd prefer to admire the scenery from a hot-air balloon? Whichever open-air activity you choose, you'll have fully deserved to gorge on local flavours at one of the cosy farm inns.
